Super-galactic travelling friends,
Since cutting way down on alcohol I've been out to pubs many times since. Most of the time it's just going for a couple then heading home, but a couple of times it's been mini pub crawls, where I've gone to three or four places over an evening.
While I may have a half pint at one of them if they have a particularly interesting looking beer, I'll stick to alcohol free drinks the rest of the time.
However, not drinking when you're going to lots of pubs can get boring, even when you're enjoying the company of those you're with, so here's some ways to spice up that night out when you don't want to drink but still want to have fun while out with mates or family.
Review the alcohol free beers
Depending where you go, some pubs have more than just Corona Cero and Guinness 0 for those who want a beer, but don't want the booze. Every time you go to a new pub, try out a new beer if possible, then write a quick review of it on your phone or in a little note pad. It'll also help with the next time you go out as you'll know which to go for, and which to avoid.
Look out for/come up with fun mocktails
I love a good mocktail, and as long as they aren't too pricy I'll often treat myself to one when I'm not drinking. It also can make a change from constant glasses of cola if you have more of a sweet tooth/not a fan of alcohol free beer. If a place doesn't have mocktails you could always see if they'll make one for you. With most pubs having so many alternative soft drinks like cranberry juice, tonic water, ginger ale, orange juice and more, they'll be a fun combo out there for you to make your very own mocktail!
Go for a bar snack/dessert instead of a drink
If you're not boozing, you can often get to the point where you're kinda bored of drinking, so instead of a drink order some bar snacks, crisps/things like scampi fries, or a pudding. All these things can be made and eaten very quick, so if you're staying at a pub for only a couple drinks, it gives you plenty of time to get that food and eat it before moving on to the next place.
Go to funky pubs if possible
If you're going out in a city, particularly older ones, there's a whole world of interesting pubs to explore. If a crawl is bring planned, try and suggest going to the more interesting pubs rather than boring sanitised chain style pubs that are scattered all over the place. That way, while you may not be drinking, at least you're in a place with an interesting atmosphere to be in and look around (bonus points if it's haunted!)
Bring a simple game with you to play with everyone
Something like Uno or Dobble is so much fun to play, whether you're drunk or sober, and can be easily carried around in your bag or pocket so it's easy to bring along to pub crawls. Some pubs even have games in them for you to play as well, so keep an eye out for those too!
So those are five ways to make pub crawls a bit more fun when you're not drinking, because you don't have to be hammered to have a good time on a pub crawl 😊
If you have any fun things you like to do when you are staying sober on a crawl let me know!
